Who is Chris Martin?

Much to the dismay of approximately 45% of people who will come to this blog, I am not this guy.

I am a Millennial.

Born in 1990, I am right smack in the middle of the Millennial generation.

I grew up in northern Indiana on a steady diet of Rugrats, Goldeneye 007, and Chicago Cubs baseball.

I am an Evangelical Christian.

This means, generally speaking, that I ascribe to these four basic “-isms”:

  • Conversionism: the belief that lives need to be transformed through a “born-again” experience and a life long process of following Jesus.
  • Activism: the expression and demonstration of the gospel in missionary and social reform efforts
  • Biblicism: a high regard for and obedience to the Bible as the ultimate authority
  • Crucicentrism: a stress on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross as making possible the redemption of humanity

I feel called to be a pastor and am patiently waiting for my opportunity as I work as a Author Development Specialist at LifeWay Christian Resources and pursue my M.Div. at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.

I am a husband.

I am married to the beautiful Susie Martin, my best friend since the eighth grade. She is a blessing, and I am so thankful to be entrusted with one of God’s sweetest daughters. It is my prayer that when I face the Lord in glory, however near or far that time may be, that I may confess that I left her more like Christ than I found her.

I am an anomaly.

I don’t mean this in a self-aggrandizing, “I’m so unique” sort of way. What I mean is, statistically, few Millennials are confessing Evangelicals and married at age 25. This makes me a bit of an odd duck. To be honest, as a white, middle-class, educated man I never really thought I would be the “minority” in any sense of the word, but it seems as though I am (and perhaps you are) when it comes to Millennials and faith/family.

My hope and prayer every time I click “Publish” on this blog is that I help the Church, the worldwide body of Christ, understand, reach, and serve Millennials in one way or another.

I am imperfect. I am going to make mistakes. I come before you, the reader, humbly, already asking for forgiveness when I mess up. I’m not an expert in anything. I just want to use my perspective and my thoughts for the benefit of the Church, and for that matter, anyone else who may happen upon this site.

Also, in case you’re interested, I have signed a book contract and have a book tentatively titled Millennial Evangelical due sometime in 2017-2018.
